World Radio Day: Cambodian Information Minister Highlights Significant Role of Radio

Cambodian Minister of Information H.E Neth Pheaktra today addressed a message to all stakeholders on the World Radio Day, stressing that radio stations play an important role in mainstreaming information to raise the people’s basic knowledge.

The 13th World Radio Day 2024 is celebrated under the theme “Radio: A Century informing, entertaining and educating,” which shows that for more than a century, radio has remained an important communication tool for the effective and quality dissemination of political, economic, social, cultural, educational and entertainment information in each era.

‘I would like to congratulate you, the owners of radio stations, producers, presenters, technicians and journalists of radio institutions in the Kingdom of Cambodia and around the world on the occasion of the 13th World Radio Day on Feb. 13, 2024,’ he wrote.

The information minister also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the producers, presenters, technicians and journalists of both public and private radio st
ations who have played an active role in disseminating true information about Cambodia to the national and international public.

Their efforts have actively contributed to fighting against fake news which is offensive, insulting and discriminatory in order to cause social insecurity and destroy public order and national security, he added.

‘To this day, radio stations continue to play a key role in managing the space of information, information security and social order in Cambodia by actively contributing to providing true information to the people across the country, especially the dissemination of Village-Commune-Sangkat Safety Policy in order to mobilise participation at the local level to better increase the people’s trust,’ he said.

H.E. Neth Pheaktra encouraged and gave recommendations to producers, presenters, technicians and journalists of public and private radio stations to increase their capacity and knowledge, and promote the integration of traditional media with new media by focusing especial
ly on digital transformation in their operations, as well as to continue disseminating the government’s policies and efforts in ensuring the country’s peace and development.

World Radio Day was established with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of radio in daily life and as an opportunity to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between operators of radio institutions to develop and modernise radio stations to meet the needs of the public and the social evolution of digital technology.
