Phnom Penh: The World Bank is committed to continuing to strengthen and expand its cooperation with Cambodia on education development, especially to exchange views on a Basic Education Improvement Project toward achieving the goal effectively. The commitment was made by H.E. Ms. Mariam J. Sherman, World Bank Country Director for Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam, during a meeting with H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia, in Phnom Penh on Nov. 12.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron briefed H.E. Ms. Mariam J. Sherman on Cambodia’s education reform efforts, mainly in strengthening the capacity of teachers, developing new teaching methods, training teachers, increasing study, reading, and writing time, establishing standard libraries, strengthening school management, etc. along with enough study materials and relevant documents, clear plan and implementation to ensure that all children gain access to a long-time quality a
nd effective education.
The minister also spoke highly of the World Bank’s commitment and continued cooperation with Cambodia in almost all sectors, particularly in the education sector.
