Women’s Affairs Launches 16-day Campaign to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls.

Rattanakiri: The Ministry of Women’s Affairs, in collaboration with the Provincial Department of Women’s Affairs of Rattanakiri, Plan International, and Care, inaugurated a 16-day campaign aimed at stopping violence against women and girls at the Rattanakiri Provincial Hall on December 3.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the event, themed ‘Together to End Violence Against Women for Social and Global Progress,’ was presided over by H.E. Ms. Hou Samith, Secretary of State of the Ministry for Women Affairs. The campaign saw the participation of 250 people, including working group leaders from the provincial department of women’s affairs, police, military police, teachers, students, and other stakeholders, with 135 of the attendees being women.

The ministry highlighted that the campaign is an annual event running from November 25 to December 10, with the goal of reducing and ultimately ending all forms of violence against women and girls. It serves as a reminder of the International Day for the Elimination
of Violence Against Women, which was first declared in 1980. This day commemorates the violent murder of the Mirabal sisters on November 25, 1960, who stood against the brutal regime of dictator Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic.
