WCS Explores Indigenous Biodiversity Management at Thpaol Loeung Jahoo Camp

Phnom Penh: The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and its partners have embarked on a provincial visit to Thpaol Loeung Jahoo Camp to deepen their understanding of the crucial role indigenous knowledge plays in biodiversity management.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the initial destination was Laengkao Waterfall, a site granted Community-Based Ecotourism (CBET) status in 2019. The team then visited Jahoo Gibbon Camp, a project focused on tourism and conservation, which aims to empower indigenous communities by providing new skills and generating collective income.

This initiative emphasises innovative solutions to support indigenous management by recognising and utilising the knowledge and practices of the Phnong people for the sustainable use of biodiversity within the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary.

This indigenous knowledge directly informs environmental policy in Cambodia.
