The newly-elected 125 lawmakers this afternoon gathered at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh to take their oaths of office in front of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.
All the lawmakers elected from the National Election on July 23, 2023 expressed their commitment to respecting the Constitution, and serving and protecting the interests of the Cambodian people, nation and motherland while fulfilling their mission entrusted to them by the people of Cambodia.
“[…] We vow that we will not exploit the national interest for our own or for our family or for our parties. We are determined to sacrifice our lives to defend at present and in the future the national independence, sovereignty, legitimate territorial integrity within the land and sea borders that Cambodia had during the 1963-1969, and unity, and not to allow any separatism,” they said in the swearing-in ceremony.
They also swore to maintain neutrality and non-alignment for Cambodia, both now and in the future, and will not allow anyone neither to interfere in the internal affairs of Cambodia nor to dictate the country’s national and international policies.
They further promised to respect liberal democracy as well as human rights, as stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to fight against all kinds of corruption and social injustice.
The mandate of each of the newly-elected 125 lawmakers was validated in the first session of the 7th legislature of National Assembly (NA), held here at the NA Palace this morning, following the inaugural session presided over by His Majesty the King.
