U.S. Congressional Delegation Committed to Promoting Cambodia-U.S. Relationship


Phnom Penh: A visiting U.S. congressional delegation has pledged to continue working with the U.S. government to promote stronger ties and cooperation between the U.S. and Cambodia. The delegation, led by H.E. Jimmy Panetta, a Democratic Congressman from California, emphasized the commitment during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, both sides spoke highly of the progress in relations and cooperation between Cambodia and the U.S., discussing ways to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as politics, economy, trade, investment, education, health, national defense and security, and mine clearance. H.E. Jimmy Panetta expressed appreciation for the rapid development of Cambodia and conveyed confidence that under the leadership of Samdech Thipadei, Cambodia will continue to develop and prosper.



The Cambodian Premier thanked the U.S. government and people for their support of Cambodia’s socio-economic development process. The visit of the U.S. congressional delegation and the frequent exchange of visits between senior officials of the two countries are expected to further contribute to promoting the strengthening and expansion of cooperation and bringing their relations to a higher level.



The U.S. congressional delegation also includes H.E. Salud Carbajal, Democratic Congressman from California, and H.E. Darin Lahood, a Republican Congressman for Illinois. This year, Cambodia and the U.S. mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.
