Tuyen Quang taps advantages to boost exports

Tuyen Quang: The northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang is striving to fully tap local advantages to boost exports and promote green growth and sustainable development.

The province is focusing on researching and building policies and mechanisms to stimulate investment and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into key industrial projects with the aim of creating goods supply for export. Priority is given to wood and wood products, mineral processing, garment and textiles and electronics.

Tuyen Quang also encourages investment in large scale industrial projects using advanced and environmentally-friendly technology in industrial parks and clusters.

Besides industry, the province also hopes to attract investment into hi-tech and green agriculture, particularly farm produce processing in association with developing material growing zones, in order to raise the value of export products.

The province is rolling out a project on agriculture restructuring in the direction of promoting commodity-scale production of strong or specialty products in combination with the building of new-style rural areas.

The project also aims to developing strong agri-forestry-fisheries products of the province to meet requirements of export markets.

Along with strengthening the local production capacity, the provincial authorities are also making efforts to expand export markets in a sustainable manner. The province has coordinated with agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnamese trade offices overseas to build a database on markets and export lines and keep updated on issues related to trade defence, technical barriers and requirements in target markets.

The province has paid attention to trade promotion activities in potential markets. It has built long-term promotion plans for key products and assist local producers in advertising products.

Tuyen Quang has brought local products to various trade fairs and expos as well as events with participation of foreign investors. At the same time, the province advocates the use of digital tools in commerce and exports, especially the sale of goods on e-commerce platforms.

The province aims to raise total export revenue to 190 million USD in 2025 and 330 million USD in 2030, while increasing the ratio of modern machinery and equipment as well as advanced and clean technology among imports.

This year, Tuyen Quang is striving for 150 million USD in export value.

In the first 10 months of 2023, the province earned an estimated 129.9 million USD from export, with main items being tea, paper pulp, garment and textiles, barite powder, wood chopsticks, footwear and antimony bars. The earnings, equivalent to 86.6% of the yearly plan, showed a 9% decrease from the same period last year.

Tuyen Quang posted a gross regional domestic products (GRDP) growth of 7.06% in the first three quarters of this year.

In terms of GRDP growth, the province ranked second among 14 northern midland and mountainous provinces, and first among 11 northern mountainous provinces.

Industrial production maintained a growing trend, surging 18.4% year on year to nearly 17.42 trillion VND. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries also recorded positive outcomes.

Also in the period, Tuyen Quang attracted nearly 2.3 million visitors, up 7.7% year on year, fulfilling 91.4% of the yearly plan. The province contributed about 2 trillion VND to the State budget, equivalent to 96.5% of the figure of the same period last year./.
