Tourism Minister devises strategies to develop megalithic sites

Our strategy is packaging these site resources with a story, or the storynomics (tourism strategy) Jakarta (ANTARA) – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno is creating special strategies to develop Indonesia’s megalithic sites for tourism, which he considers to have huge potential to attract tourists.”These megalithic sites are the cultural heritage of the past that have enormous potential, and I have seen that in several places that (they) can become cultural heritage tourist attractions,” he noted in a special interview with ANTARA here on Monday. Megalithic sites are sites with relics that have high historical value. Uno noted that several locations, such as the megalithic village in Flores, Gunung Padang in Cianjur, and Pokekea at the Lore Lindu National Park in Central Sulawesi, will become high-potential megalithic sites apart from megalithic tombs. He explained that one of the strategies to develop those megalithic sites is the “storynomics tourism” approach that prioritizes narratives, creative content, and living culture using the power of culture as the main aspect of a tourist attraction. “Our strategy is packaging these site resources with a story, or the storynomics (tourism strategy), that is diversified from one destination to the other and have their own distinct features, so that we can direct the placement of these cultural tourism products to the right target market,” he elaborated. He further emphasized that the tour packaging of these megalithic tourism sites must be strengthened by creating other related tourism ecosystems, such as tourism villages and geoparks, around the sites. n approach that is based on conservation and sustainable future infrastructure development will also be prioritized to maintain harmony and avoid any harm to nature. The minister noted that sustainable development is also a plus point to attract tourists, who currently care about the environment. He explained that apart from massive support from the government, improvement in the quality of human resources that are related to tourism can also become the key to success for tourist attractions. Thus, assistance and training will continue to be conducted for several groups, such as the communities in tourism villages, tour guides, and tourist attraction managers.
