Three Draft Resolutions Discussed in Vientiane to Boost Young Parliamentarians’ Role


The Young Parliamentarians Meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on Oct. 20, on the sidelines of the 45th AIPA General Assembly.

The Cambodian delegation taking part in the meeting was led by H.E. Keo Piseth, Secretary of the National Assembly Commission on Legislation and Justice.

According to the Cambodian National Assembly’s news release, the annual meeting, chaired by the Lao National Assembly, discussed three draft resolutions: the draft resolution on Empowering Youth in Building a Secure, Resilient, and Inclusive ASEAN Community, sponsored by Lao PDR; the draft resolution on Advancing Young Parliamentarians’ Engagement in the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 3 in ASEAN, sponsored by Thailand; and the draft resolution on Strengthening the Role of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA in Implementing the Conference Statement from the 9th IPU Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians on Accelerating the Achievement of the SDGs through Digital Tra
nsformation and Innovation, sponsored by Viet Nam.

Young lawmakers provided input and recommendations focused on promoting youth participation in development, including economic transformation and democratic participation. They also emphasised the role of young MPs in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals through digital transformation and innovation, aiming to enhance knowledge and promote youth participation in building an ASEAN community with well-being, security, resilience, and inclusion.
