Siem Reap: A delegation from the Thai War Veterans Organisation, led by General Detnitit Luangamkum, Director-General of the organisation, visited the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province for a two-day tour on Feb. 10-11. The visit was part of a cultural exchange and exploration of Cambodia’s rich historical landmarks.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the delegation was accompanied by General Oum Sok, Deputy Joint Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Chairman of the Cambodian Veterans Association’s Coordination Committee, along with officials from the Siem Reap branch of the association. The group had the opportunity to explore iconic sites including Ta Prohm, Bayon, and Angkor Wat temples.
General Detnitit Luangamkum expressed admiration for the ancient Khmer architecture, noting the craftsmanship of the Angkorian-era builders and the historical significance of these temples. He highlighted that Angkor’s architectural marvels are unique globally, showcasing Khmer ingenuity and artistry. This uniqueness continues to attract visitors eager to understand Cambodia’s cultural heritage, contributing significantly to the country’s tourism-driven economy.
The delegation also commended the intricate carvings and lifelike Apsara sculptures, which they believed embody a welcoming spirit. They recognized the artistic and cultural depth reflected in these ancient structures, which encapsulate Khmer mythology and history.
During their visit to Ta Prohm, General Detnitit Luangamkum met with Cambodian war veterans who perform traditional Khmer music for visitors. He praised their resilience and dedication, acknowledging their efforts in preserving Khmer traditions and providing for their families through their craft.
Before concluding their visit, the delegation toured the Killing Fields Memorial at Wat Thmei, a site commemorating victims of the Khmer Rouge genocide. At 1:00 PM on Feb. 11, the delegation departed Siem Reap for Phnom Penh by vehicle convoy, continuing their official mission.
