Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ulema Council has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations (UN) to take immediate measures to stop the Sudanese armed conflict.”The MUI has appealed to the OIC and the UN to end this war at the earliest so that the people of Sudan can continue their lives in a safe, harmonious, peaceful, prosperous, and joyful manner,” deputy chairperson of MUI, Anwar Abbas, said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday. It will indeed be a difficult task to put an end to the conflict between the Sudanese national army and a paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) due to the abundant resources wielded by both parties, he noted. “Both parties in the clash possess thousands of combatants, foreign supporters, mineral wealth, and other resources at their disposal to crush each other,” he said. With that in mind, Abbas emphasized the need for the OIC and the UN to intervene as a protracted conflict would cause suffering to the Sudanese people. On April 20, 2023, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged both parties to stop the conflict and called for a ceasefire. “There is a strong consensus to condemn the ongoing conflict in Sudan and to put an end to the hostility,” Guterres said. He also expressed deep grief over the death of many civilians, the deteriorating humanitarian condition, and the possibility of a further dire escalation. The fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has been on in the Sudanese capital city of Khartoum and its surroundings since April 15.The RSF and the Sudanese army have been leveling accusations at each other, with the former accusing the government forces of attacking its troops in southern Khartoum with light and heavy weapons and the latter claiming that the paramilitary spread lies about it and declared it an insurgent force. baca-jugaRelated news: Another 298 Indonesians in Sudan to be immediately evacuated: FMRelated news: Some 538 Indonesians evacuated from Sudan through Jeddah: MinisterRelated news: andgtovt continues efforts to evacuate Indonesians from Sudan
