Phnom Penh: President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has expressed his full support for Buddhism teaching in the Kingdom. The support was reaffirmed when Samdech Techo Hun Sen presided over the inauguration ceremony of a school building and other achievements in Preah Ind Samaky Dham pagoda, in Trapaing Krapeu village, Kraing Makak commune, Ang Snuol district, Kandal province this morning.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, at the event, Samdech Techo Hun Sen decided to support the construction of two four-storey Buddhism school buildings and provide KRH 100 million (about US$25,000) per month for one year for the operation of the Buddhism school in Preah Ind Samaky Dham pagoda.
The Senate President mentioned that this support can cover two-thirds of the budget required to run the Buddhism Teaching program in Preah Ind Samaky Dham pagoda, which includes the salary of 232 teachers, doctors, and other expenses in the school.
Cambodia is home to a total of 5,146 pagodas with more than 70,000 monks across the country.
