Phnom Penh: Cambodia Senate President underscores the pivotal role of religious harmony in contribution to national and global unity. Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen highlighted the insight when addressing the opening of the 32nd Congress of Buddhist Monks 2024 at the National Institute of Education on Nov. 21. Though Buddhism is the state religion in Cambodia, all religions unify well in the country, contributing indispensably to maintaining social harmony, peace, and sustainable and resilient development. All religions teach followers to be good and kind and to live happily and peacefully within society, added Samdech Techo Hun Sen. The teaching has become the life principle, morality, and virtue that shape people’s relations and mutual support.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Minister of Cults and Religion noted that aside from Buddhism, the main religions in Cambodia are Muslim and Christianity. With Buddhism practiced by the majority of Cambodians, there are a total of 5,146 pagodas
and 71,174 monks across Cambodia.
