Phnom Penh: President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, welcomed the Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, H.E. Dr. Sonexay Siphandone, at the January 7 Palace today.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during their courtesy meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed a warm welcome to Prime Minister Dr. Sonexay Siphandone and his delegation. He reminisced about his visit to Laos in February 2023, a time when he served as the Prime Minister of Cambodia.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen informed the Lao Prime Minister that His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia, is scheduled to pay a state visit to Laos in January of the following year. He also extended congratulations to Laos for successfully chairing ASEAN and acknowledged the group’s achievements under Lao leadership. Furthermore, Hun Sen explained Cambodia’s decision to withdraw from the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Area, asserting that cooperation betwe
en the three countries would persist through existing mechanisms and bilateral efforts.
Additionally, Samdech Techo Hun Sen accepted an invitation from the Lao National Assembly President, H.E. Saysomphone Phomvihane, to visit Laos at a suitable time in his capacity as the President of the Cambodian People’s Party and the Senate of Cambodia.
Prime Minister Dr. Sonexay Siphandone praised Cambodia’s development and international reputation and emphasized the robust cooperation between the two nations in regional and international frameworks. He highlighted the positive collaboration along their shared border and within legislative bodies. Moreover, Dr. Sonexay Siphandone updated Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the progress of bilateral cooperation and reiterated his commitment to further strengthen ties with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
