Ruling Party Leading the 7th National Election

The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) is in the lead in today’s contest for the National Assembly’s 125 seats, said H.E. Tep Nitha, Secretary General of the National Election Committee (NEC) at a meeting with stakeholders this evening.

“Based on the preliminary results that we have collected from the polling stations, CPP is taking the lead in today election,” he said.

At the same time, NEC President H.E. Prach Chan said the preliminary figures showed that the turnout rate is 84.58 percent or 8.2 million of the total 9.7 million eligible voters.

For his part, CPP spokesperson H.E. Sok Eysan confirmed to different media that CPP won a landslide victory in this year’s election, but not yet calculated the number of seats in the National Assembly.

“This truly reflects people’s confidence in the CPP’s leadership,” he underlined.

In the 6th National Election on July 29, 2018, the CPP received a total of 4,889,113 votes, or 76 percent, taking all the 125 seats in the National Assembly. The then turnout rate was 83.02 percent of the total 8.38million eligible voters.
