Siem Reap: The APSARA National Authority is diligently working on the restoration of the brick temple located in the northeast corner of Phnom Krom Temple in Siem Reap province, with plans to complete the project by the end of 2024, according to the authority’s news release on Dec. 3.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Mr. Ros Visoth, who oversees the restoration efforts, highlighted that the team has been engaged in extensive work over the past five months. This includes creating a detailed layout, preparing necessary documentation, and reinforcing the surrounding foundation. They have also focused on repairing areas where bricks were crumbling, particularly in the pillars, walls, and platform.
The northwest section of the temple, which was in critical condition due to significant brick deterioration, has received special attention, he said, adding that currently, about 90 percent of the upper part of the temple has been restored.
Despite appearing relatively intact from the outside, Mr. Visoth noted
that a closer examination reveals severe internal damage that posed a risk of collapse. The ongoing restoration efforts aim to preserve the temple’s structural integrity and historical value, ensuring it remains strong and true to its original form for future generations of Cambodians.
The team is committed to completing the restoration work on schedule while adhering to technical standards to extend the temple’s longevity, he underlined.
