Prime Minister Hun Manet Calls for Respect and Civility in Public Discourse

Phnom Penh: Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet urged all Cambodians, especially the youth, to engage in respectful and ethical behaviour when interacting with others, both in actions and words. In his message posted on his official Telegram channel this morning, he emphasised the importance of upholding moral values, dignity, and mutual respect in society.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Prime Minister expressed concern over recent actions and statements by some individuals that have negatively impacted the feelings and dignity of others, particularly women. ‘I have observed that some individuals, through their actions or words, may not have intended harm but sought attention or amusement. However, they may not realise the profound impact their behaviour or language can have on the emotions and dignity of those affected,’ he stated.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on all citizens, especially the younger generation, to act and speak with respect and to adhere to the
moral and ethical values that define Cambodian society. ‘Even when actions or expressions are legally permissible, respecting the rights and dignity of others remains a moral obligation for all of us. We must consistently uphold these principles to contribute to a harmonious and civilised society,’ he added.

The Prime Minister’s message underscores the need for collective responsibility in fostering a culture of respect and civility, ensuring that Cambodia continues to thrive as a society rooted in mutual understanding and dignity.
