PM Hun Sen: “Samdech” Title Not Granted by Chance, But by Hard Work

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has explained that the title of “Samdech” is bestowed on dignitaries not by chance, by their hard work.

The Premier made the comments while he was holding a get-together with some 3,500 leaders of trade unions, representatives of civil servants, teachers and Informal Economy Association of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), ahead of the International Labour Day (May 1), at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to congratulate Lok Chumteav Kittisangahapundit Men Sam An, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection., on obtaining the title of “Samdech” on April 8, 2023.

“This is not a coincidence, but an effort of the recipient [in the national development]. Such honour exists only in the monarchy. […],” he underlined.

Currently, three female dignitaries have been granted the title of “Samdech” — the First Lady, Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross; Samdech Thamavisutha Vongsa Sao Ty, the spouse of National Assembly President, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin; and Samdech Kittisangahapundit Men Sam An.
