Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has encouraged the 252 Cambodian para athletes to do their best to win more medals for the nation.
“You are athletes with disabilities, but you still can compete and win medals for the nation,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said at a get-together with the Cambodian para athletes at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this afternoon
The Prime Minister affirmed that he is a strong supporter of the para athletes, and he will preside over the opening and closing ceremonies of the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also recommended all para athletes to stick to the fair play and fully respect the games’ standard.
H.E. Yi Veasna, Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC) said as the host, Cambodia expects to increase its medal tally by 50 percent from that gained in the 11th ASEAN Para Games.
The 12th ASEAN Para Games will be held in Phnom Penh from June 3 to 9, 2023 with a total of 13+1 sports, including Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Blind Basketball, Judo, Weightlifting, Swimming, Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Sitting Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Wheelchair Basketball, and E-Sports (Demonstration).
In the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia last year, Cambodia bagged in total 28 medals: 7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze in Boccia, Men’s Sitting Volleyball, Women’s Wheelchair Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, Athletics, and Swimming.
