PM Calls on Continued Collective Efforts to Maintain Peace

The Prime Minister has called on his fellow Cambodians to continue joining hands with the government to maintain peace, which is hard and time-consuming to build but could be easily lost.

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet highlighted the message in his open statement circulated recently to mark the International Day of Peace on Sept. 21.

He reaffirmed that at any cost, the Royal Government of Cambodia is deeply committed to securing peace and social stability as an indispensable foundation for growth and prosperity.

To contribute to sustaining peace in Cambodia, Cambodians from all walks of life must help prevent social unrest, including by being more vigilant to fake news and misinformation, he added.

‘Cultivating a Culture of Peace’ theme for the International Day of Peace 2024 reflects the significance of promoting a spirit and culture of peace among all generations and communities both through formal and information education.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet wrote that as a country that has gone thr
ough decades of war, Cambodia recognises the invaluable importance of peace and stability, because of which the country has secured remarkable development achievements and high growth benefiting everyone.

From there, Cambodia is looking ahead to graduating from the group of least developed countries soon and moving forward to achieve a high-income status by 2050.

In contribution to the world’s peacebuilding and peacekeeping efforts, he added, Cambodia since 2006 has been deploying as many as 9,819 peacekeepers, 856 of them women, under the United Nations framework to different countries.

Currently, a total of 627 Cambodian peacekeepers, including 131 women, are carrying on the UN peacekeeping missions in Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Central African Republic, Yemen and Congo.
