Plastic Bag Import Down 75 Percent in Q1


The volume of plastic imports to Cambodia in the first quarter of 2024 dropped by 75 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

The environment-friendly trend was shared recently by the spokesperson at the Ministry of Environment, H.E. Khvay Atiya.

He unveiled the report from the ministry’s Department of Solid Waste Management showing that in the first quarter of 2024, there was only one licenced firm, compared to 17 in 2023, importing a total of 12,336 kilogrammes.

During the same period, two licenced firms, compared to 13 in 2023, imported 9,152 kilogrammes of plastic bags for production lines in Cambodia.

The import of plastic bags for general use in 2023 was 49,297 kilogrammes for the first quarter and 131,356 kilogrammes for the whole year, while the import for production lines was 35,580 kilogrammes for quarter one and 135,396 per annum.
