PHNOM PENH: The Philippines has expressed a desire to collaborate with Cambodia’s Preah Sihanouk province to support the conservation of marine resources. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between H.E. Ms. Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, the Ambassador of the Philippines to Cambodia, and H.E. Mang Sinet, the Governor of Preah Sihanouk province.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Mang Sinet welcomed the ambassador’s proposal and expressed willingness to engage in detailed technical discussions to advance the collaboration. During the meeting, he also congratulated the Philippines on the 67th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations and provided an overview of the province’s economic development goals.
The governor shared that in 2023, the export-import volume of Preah Sihanouk’s special economic zones reached over US$3.36 billion, marking an increase of over 34 percent compared to the previous year. This economic growth highlights the province’s strategic importance and potenti
al for future collaboration.
Ambassador Mayo expressed her admiration for the province’s progress and extended gratitude to the Preah Sihanouk administration for their assistance in rescuing 40 Filipinos from transnational crimes. She noted that approximately 300 Filipinos currently reside and work in the province, underscoring the strong ties between the two regions.
