Pen Bona Highlights Strength of Seventh Legislature in Advancing Cambodia’s 2050 Vision

Pen Bona: The Royal Government of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly remains a strong and healthy government, continuously advancing toward the 2050 vision with confidence, H.E. Pen Bona, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister and Head of the Government Spokesperson Unit, affirmed. He described it as the only hope for the Cambodian people.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, speaking at a media forum on the government’s achievements held at the Office of the Council of Ministers this afternoon, H.E. Pen Bona emphasised that despite being in office for just 18 months, the administration of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has demonstrated remarkable dynamism, energy, and resilience. He highlighted the government’s ability to drive forward the ‘Pentagonal Strategy,’ achieving significant milestones for both the people and the nation.

H.E. Pen Bona noted that Cambodia has successfully maintained peace, political stability, and macroeconomic balance, allowing the economy to recover strongly after the COVID-19 crisis. As a result, he asserted, the Seventh Legislature-under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet-has emerged as a government that instills hope among the Cambodian people.

One of the administration’s key achievements, he pointed out, is in the healthcare sector. The government has carried out critical reforms to ensure universal access to quality healthcare services. ‘No Cambodian should be left behind,’ he stated, underscoring efforts to provide fast, efficient, and high-quality medical services.

To achieve this, the government has implemented two major initiatives: Providing free healthcare cards to citizens and reforming the healthcare system to improve service efficiency and accessibility. To date, over 7.5 million Cambodians have received free healthcare cards. Among them, more than 4.7 million hold equity fund health cards, while over 2.8 million are covered under the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) scheme.

In 2024 alone, the government allocated over 30 billion Riel (approximately US$7.5 million) to support these programmes. For 2025 and beyond, it has earmarked nearly US$20 million in additional funding to procure essential medications, including treatments for diabetes and hypertension, ensuring free distribution to those in need.
