Siem Reap: Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Santepundit Neth Savoeun has attributed Cambodia’s tourism growth to mainly peace, security, and safety as well as to Cambodians’ friendliness and sincerity. ‘Of course, Cambodia has countless natural heritage sites, but we all know that the tourists come to Cambodia because the country is peaceful and safe. We often hear many tourists say the same thing: Cambodian people are friendly, smiling, compassionate, big-hearted, and sincere. This is a good reputation that we must preserve and protect with utmost care,’ said the DPM while presiding over in Siem Reap provincial city this morning the official launch of the Angkor ticketing system and ticket inspection reform.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, this is not what the Ministry of Tourism or the Royal Government can do alone, but rather requires the participation of the private sector and tourism service providers, as well as the general public, he underlined. H.E. Neth Savoeun also reaffirmed the Royal Government’s high attention to boosting tourism, a key sector for Cambodia’s economic growth.
Last year, the Kingdom registered 6.7 million international visitors, higher than the figure before the COVID-19 crisis in 2019 of 6.6 million. The Ministry of Tourism has set a strategic plan in targeting to attract up to 7.2 million or 7.5 million foreign tourists in 2025, H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism said recently.
