The Ministry of Information and partners have gathered over 200 journalism experts and practitioners to generate input for the drafting of Cambodia’s first-ever Charter for Professional Journalism.
The consultative workshop took place on July 24 here in Phnom Penh under the chairmanship of Minister of Information H.E. Neth Pheaktra.
Addressing the function, the minister underscored that the establishment of the journalism charter aims to ensure the harmonisation and consistency of professional journalism ethics.
It will serve as a common basis to guide professional media practice and ensure information security in Cambodia while supporting the industry to embrace evolving technology, including artificial intelligence (AI).
The minister is positive that the existence of the charter will also help Cambodia address fake news and misinformation and promote public trust in the media in the country.
From there, he added, the media can maintain its respectable role in promoting democracy and the rule of law, as
well as national peace and sustainable development.
