Phnom Penh: The General Department of Taxation (GDT) has transformed its paper-based taxation process into a fully online system, streamlining registration and payment processes for taxpayers.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Kong Vibol, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and GDT Director General, discussed the new system at a seminar on Annual Tax on Income Obligations and Updates on Taxation Laws and Regulations, held on March 17. The event was attended by Oknha Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Coordinating Committee for the Private Sector of the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF), alongside GDT officials and other members of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce.
The online system now removes the necessity for taxpayers to physically visit tax branches, allowing them to access tax services through the system. H.E. Kong Vibol highlighted that taxpayers can complete procedures through the GDT app, ensuring legal compliance and the fulfillment of their tax obligations. Previously, tax payments were only accepted at tax branches and administrations, but with the new system, payments can be made through partnered banking institutions.
E-filing and income tax are part of the public finance reform related to tax work, aiming to strengthen an effective and transparent tax culture with quality, contributing to development across all sectors. H.E. Kong Vibol urged company-enterprise owners and taxpayers to fulfill their obligations and cooperate in paying taxes in full, as it is a contribution to the Royal Government’s efforts in developing infrastructure.
Oknha Kith Meng praised the GDT’s digital transformation in tax collection, noting that the GDT serves as a model for cooperation between the Royal Government and the private sector. He encouraged business entities to actively engage with tax policies and regulations, ensuring an efficient and transparent tax system that supports national development.
