OIF’s Participation in Election Observation Contributes to Promoting Cambodia’s Democratic Process

The participation of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) in the observation of the 7th general election in Cambodia will contribute to promoting the rule of law and the democratic process in the Kingdom.

The remarks were made by H.E. Désiré NYARUHIRIRA, Special Adviser to the OIF Secretary-General on Diplomacy and Political Affairs, while paying a courtesy call on Cambodian National Assembly (NA) President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra this morning.

The OIF, consisting of 82 members, regularly participates in the election observation in its member countries, he said, stressing that in Cambodia, the OIF delegation will observe the elections in Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Kandal and Kampong Thom.

After the mission, H.E. Désiré NYARUHIRIRA added, the delegation will submit a report to the OIF and Cambodia.

For his part, Samdech Heng Samrin extended warm welcome to the OIF delegation and wished them success in their mission.

The Cambodian NA president informed the delegation that since 1998, Cambodia has successfully held on its own the general elections in a free and fair manner with many political parties competing fairly under the organisation of the National Election Committee (NEC) as an independent institution.
