Official English Biography of Cambodia’s First Lady Dr. Pich Chanmony Released

Phnom Penh: The highly anticipated English-language biography of Lok Chumteav Dr. Pich Chanmony, Cambodia’s First Lady and spouse of the 37th Prime Minister, has been officially published this week.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the book, titled “PICH CHANMONY – The Spouse of the 37th Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia,” aims to meet growing international interest in her life and legacy. Author H.E. Dr. Chhay Sophal revealed that the English edition was produced in response to numerous requests from foreign diplomats, journalists, and representatives of international organisations both within and outside Cambodia.

Recognising the demand, Dr. Chhay Sophal translated and published the biography to make it accessible to a global audience. The Khmer version of the book, released in December 2024 under the same title, provides an in-depth account of Dr. Pich Chanmony’s life-from her early childhood to her current role as First Lady. It also explores the lives of her parents, offering readers deeper insight into her family background and upbringing.

While the Khmer edition saw a print run of 30,000 copies, the newly released English version has been printed in 10,000 copies, primarily targeting foreign readers and international students. Dr. Chhay Sophal stated that the English edition will be distributed to school and university libraries in Phnom Penh that offer foreign language programmes, as well as to international partners and institutions abroad.
