Towards the anticipated appointment of Cambodia’s new Prime Minister late this month, random members of the public expressed their nostalgia and gratitude for the current Cambodian Prime Minister, though they congratulated his successor with high hopes for the country’s outlook.
Ms. Eng Kimcheang, a Phnom Penh resident, said she felt sad hearing that Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen would give up his PM role after building the country up to this level.
Nevertheless, she is confident that the future Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Hun Manet, will follow in his father’s footsteps to secure peace and lead the country towards more growth and development.
Mr. Khuon Sopheak, a student at the Human Resources University in Phnom Penh, thankfully recalled the sacrifices and milestones made by Samdech Techo Hun Sen to bring Cambodia’s growth track back from nothing after the fall of the Khmer Rouge.
“Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s leadership is rooted deeply in the hearts of Cambodian people and will last forever, even if he will not continue as Cambodia’s Prime Minister in the 7th mandate of the government,” he said.
He also spoke highly of the high qualifications, strong experience, and outstanding leadership of H.E. Dr. Hun Manet, the Prime Minister candidate of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), which won almost all the parliamentary seats during the July 23 general election.
Dr. Ley Sopheap, President of the Investor Federal Association of Cambodia and Multi-Level Marketing Federation Association of Cambodia, saw CPP’s appointment of H.E. Dr. Hun Manet as future Prime Minister as a key driver behind the party’s landslide victory.
He highlighted that “H.E. Dr. Hun Manet is highly specialised in military, economics, and politics, which is a rare human resource.”
Mr. Pho Vy, Apsara Media Services (AMS) Programme Producer, shared his observation that H.E. Dr. Hun Manet has extraordinary personality and international relations skills, and these qualities will contribute to enhancing Cambodia’s international affairs.
He was also positive that there would be more investors in Cambodia, better human development, and more growth under the leadership of the new Prime Minister.
After learning about CPP’s big victory in the general election, Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen on July 26 announced his decision to give up his PM role to give the opportunity for CPP’s young blood to demonstrate their capacity to lead Cambodia to a new height.
A smooth leadership transition to sustain growth acceleration is the key behind the decision, he said, hoping that the new Prime Minister’s appointment will take place on Aug. 22 as planned.
