New Zealand Government Expands Scholarships for Cambodian Students

AKP Phnom Penh, September 19, 2024 – Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, welcomed H.E. Mr. Jonathan Kings, New Zealand Ambassador to Cambodia, for a courtesy call at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, focusing on a wide range of sectors, as shared by the Press Release of the Spokesperson for Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister.

Ambassador Kings expressed New Zealand’s intention to encourage more investors to explore opportunities in Cambodia, aligning with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1, a key national development plan. Additionally, he announced an increase in scholarships for Cambodian students to pursue education in New Zealand.

Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet praised New Zealand’s efforts, particularly in education and training programmes, which have benefited Cambodian students and civil servants. He also recognised New Zealand’s contributions to areas like demining a
nd community development at the Angkor sites.

Both sides also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in education, agriculture, trade, investment, tourism, cultural preservation, and defence, aiming to foster mutual benefits for both nations.
