A total of 2,600 sports delegates, team leaders, and coaches from across Cambodia have been joining the National Primary School Games 2023.
The sport event was officially opened in the evening of Aug. 13 at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, and will last until Aug. 21.
In his opening speech, H.E. Minister highlighted the main objectives of National Primary School Games ranging from inspiring physical education and sports activities at education institutions and students’ participation in sports for health and intellectual development to increasing friendship, solidarity, and enhancing physical and mental strength.
H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s special attention to the field of physical education and sports by formulating a national policy on sports development and engaging in all forms of sports reform.
He also recalled the success of Cambodia in hosting the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games this year with a new record of 284 gold, silver and bronze medals.
Athletes from the 25 provinces and capital will compete in 10 sports of 51 sport events for 531 medals in the National Primary School Games 2023, according to the report of Mr. Huot Sengtry, Director of Sports Event Planning and Management Department at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
