National Assembly Condemns Overseas Political Extremists

AKP Phnom Penh, August 13, 2024 — The President of Cambodia’s National Assembly has issued a statement condemning the ill-willed and irresponsible acts by a small group of overseas extreme Cambodian politicians to manipulate the legitimate government and threaten hard-earned peace and social order in Cambodia.

Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary released the statement on Aug. 12 on behalf of her institution, urging the public to be mindful and calling on competent authorities to take legal action against the unlawfully politicised motives.

In the statement, Samdech Khuon Sudary listed some forms of the fabricated measures, including the spread of incitement, fake news, a plan to form an illegal government, and an attempt to overthrow the Royal Government led by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, which was elected by 82 percent of voters.

The irresponsible act does not only violate the Constitution of Cambodia and play down the democratic voice of Cambodians, but also undermines the ha
rd-earned peace built on the selfless sacrifice of the previous leadership of the government, especially Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

As a democratic country, added the statement, the formation of the Royal Government of Cambodia cannot be done through any form other than a free and fair election.

Through the statement, Samdech Khuon Sudary called on the public to be vigilant against the dirty acts crafted by the group of political extremists to shake on-going peace, stability, and growth in Cambodia.

She urged competent authorities to be steadfast in investigating and coordinating the extradition of those extremists to bring them for legal action in accordance with the laws of Cambodia.
