Mondulkiri’s Leng Kao Waterfalls Emerges as a Popular Tourist Site

The improvement of a uniquely stunning ecotourism community of Leng Kao waterfalls, which was named after a touching incident of a bear and its owner, in Mondulkiri has attracted both local and foreign visitors.

According to a member of the ecotourism committee Ms. Sen Ty, the renovated waterfalls welcomed over 100 visitors for just three days after its opening.

Leng Kao waterfalls is located about 500 metres off the main road leading to Mondulkiri provincial town in Andong Kraloeung village of Keo Seima district.

The 18.24-hectare ecotourism community offers an improved wide range of services, including homestays, sanitary local eateries, and views of more than 50 wild species, in addition to the three layers of natural waterfalls and spectacular scenery.

The ecotourism community, home primarily to the Punong indigenous ethnic group, was opened in 2023, and its renovation was technically and financially supported earlier this year by the REDD+ tourism project, said Ms. Sen Ty.

She continued that the wa
terfalls gained its popularity after an incident wherein a bear saved his owner, who was resting near the waterfall, from an attack by a tiger.

Ever since, the waterfalls were called Leng Kao, which literally means the bear waterfalls, and those who had visited the place could not help being amazed by its unique beauty and spreading their experience.

With some service improvement, Leng Kao waterfalls is now becoming a popular ecotourism community that can receive visitors all year round, providing a sustainable livelihood for the locals.
