Phnom Penh: Cambodia’s Minister of Information, H.E. Neth Pheaktra, has called on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to review and support the formulation of strategic policies for the transition from analog to digital broadcasting.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the request was made during a meeting on Feb. 25 afternoon, at the ministry’s office, where H.E. Minister Neth Pheaktra met with ITU experts Gardiyawasam Amal Darshana and Syed Aamir. The discussion focused on assessing Cambodia’s current digital broadcasting landscape and preparing a national policy framework for the transition.
The meeting followed a formal request from the Ministry of Information, submitted through the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, for ITU’s technical support in developing Cambodia’s digital television sector. During the discussion, H.E. Minister Neth Pheaktra urged ITU to help establish policies that support private sector involvement and ensure nationwide coverage of digital broadcasting.
He emphasised the need for high-quality, reliable, and accessible information for all Cambodians. Recently, ITU’s Asia-Pacific Regional Director, through the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), also visited Cambodia to explore potential collaborations with the Ministry of Information. These efforts aim to strengthen the country’s media infrastructure and facilitate the shift from analog to digital broadcasting.
