Malaysian House Speaker’s Visit Marks ‘New Chapter’ in Bilateral Ties: NA President


Phnom Penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly, expressed Cambodia’s eagerness to strengthen relations with Malaysia during a dinner reception for H.E. Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr.) Johari bin Abdul, the Malaysian Speaker of the House of Representatives, and his delegation on January 16. She highlighted the strong parliamentary ties between the two nations and described the visit as marking a new chapter in their cooperation.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the National Assembly President noted that the bilateral talks held earlier on Thursday were productive and meaningful, conducted in the spirit of friendship and shared ASEAN values. She emphasized the historical and cultural roots of Cambodia-Malaysia relations, which have proven to be resilient and have expanded across economic, social, and cultural dimensions.

Samdech Khuon Sudary identified several areas for potential collaboration, including trade, investment, agriculture, energy, the halal industry, I
CT, and digital sectors. She expressed optimism about achieving more fruitful outcomes by building on the foundation of political trust and comprehensive cooperation.

The President also stressed the importance of strengthening ASEAN unity and centrality, as well as the ASEAN-led regional architecture. She highlighted the need for open and inclusive multilateralism and a rules-based international order, in which ASEAN plays a crucial role.

Furthermore, she voiced Cambodia’s strong support for Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship, which focuses on inclusivity and sustainability this year. As members of the ASEAN family, Cambodia and Malaysia continue to foster deeper cooperation across various regional and international platforms.
