Laos, Russia Strengthen Legislative Cooperation


(KPL) President of the National Assembly, Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, welcomed today Mr. Kara-ool Sholban Valerievich, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, during his visit to Laos to attend the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45) in Vientiane.

Mr. Xaysomphone highly valued the strong relationship and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Russia, particularly between the legislative bodies of both countries.

He highlighted the strategic partnership, which has been strengthened through continued delegation exchanges at various levels. The cooperation in areas such as defense, education, economics, trade, banking, telecommunications, and communications has yielded positive results.

President Thongloun Sisoulith is scheduled to visit Russia to participate in the BRICS Summit from October 23-24, 2024.

Mr. Xaysomphone also acknowledged Russia’s ongoing support in human resource development, both historically and in Laos’ current national socio-economic development ph
ase. Hundreds of Lao students are currently studying in Russia, with the number continuing to grow.

During their meeting, both leaders shared updates on the socio-economic achievements of their respective countries.
