Laos, Canada Strengthen Parliamentary Cooperation During AIPA-45


(KPL) Mr. Liber Libuapau, Chairman of Finance and Auditing met today with Yuen Pau Woo, a member of the Canadian Senate, who is on a visit to the Lao PDR to attend the 45th ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly General Assembly (AIPA-45).

The meeting aimed to discuss strengthening relations, friendship, and cooperation between Laos and Canada, as well as between the legislative bodies of both nations.

Mr. Liber expressed his appreciation for the growing friendship and cooperation between Laos and Canada, particularly the support provided to the Lao National Assembly in fulfilling its international obligations as the host of AIPA-45.

He highlighted the longstanding relationship between Laos and Canada. The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 15, 1974.

Over the past five decades, the cooperation between the two nations has continued to grow, marked by the exchange of officials at various levels. Canada has provided support in key areas, including human resource development, education, healt
h, and the clearance of unexploded ordnance (UXO).

On this occasion, Mr. Liber proposed that the legislative bodies of both countries continue exchanging delegations to share experiences and lessons on legislative practices.

He also suggested that Canada maintain its assistance to Laos in areas such as UXO clearance, human resource development, health, and other sectors.

He also called for continued mutual support in regional and international parliamentary forums.
