Lao, Vietnamese Parliaments Strengthen Cooperation


(KPL) In response to the invitation from Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Politburo Member and President of the National Assembly of Laos, and Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo Member and President of the National Assembly of Vietnam, and a high-ranking delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly paid an official visit to the Lao PDR from October 17-18, 2024. They also participated in the 45th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly General Assembly (AIPA-45), hosted by Laos.

The official welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese leaders was held on October 17 at the Lao National Assembly, led by Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane and other senior officials.

Following the ceremony, both sides held formal talks to reflect on their bilateral cooperation and map out future collaboration between the two national legislative bodies.

Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Vietnamese delegation and highly valued their official visit to Laos and participation in AIPA-45. He noted that this marks Mr. Man’s fi
rst official visit as President of Vietnam’s National Assembly, which significantly contributes to further strengthening the great relationship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Vietnam, especially between their legislative bodies.

Mr. Xaysomphone also praised and congratulated the Vietnamese people on their significant accomplishments under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as outlined in the Party’s 13th National Congress, which has led to comprehensive national development in Vietnam.

On behalf of the Party, National Assembly, Government, and all Lao people, Mr. Xaysomphone expressed profound gratitude to the Party, National Assembly, Government, and people of fraternal Vietnam for their tremendous, valuable, and timely support and assistance to the people of Laos. This support has been provided both during the national liberation struggle in the past and in the efforts to protect and develop the count
ry today.

After the meeting, Mr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane and Mr. Tran Thanh Man participated in the signing ceremony of a memorandum of cooperation between the National Assemblies of Laos and Vietnam.
