In a significant show of international collaboration and community engagement, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Cambodia-Korea Alumni Association (CAMKAA), and World Friends Korea (WFK) Volunteer held a Social Activities and Donation Ceremony at Krasang Doh Laeung Primary School in Kampong Chhnang province.

According to KOICA’s press release AKP received last evening, with over 400 participants in attendance, this event emphasised the dedication of these organisations to advancing education and health development in Cambodia’s rural communities.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed guests including Ms. CHOI Moon Jung, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office; H.E. YANG Phyrum, Deputy Governor of Kampong Chhnang Province; and H.E. IM Sour, President of CAMKAA and Deputy Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

Teachers, parents, students, and representatives from 20 primary schools in Teuk Phos district also joined the event, marking a pivotal
moment in the continuing partnership between Cambodia and South Korea.

At the core of the event was the distribution of essential resources aimed at enhancing education and health outcomes for children in the district. KOICA, CAMKAA, and WFK Volunteers provided 100 bicycles to students with long commutes to school, along with 100 backpacks, 20 sets of essential medicines, and 4,800 health supply packages. The packages, which included items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and hand sanitiser, were distributed to 4,798 students across 20 primary schools. Additionally, KOICA contributed 42 safety education boards, 3,200 leaflets, and 500 notebooks and pens to foster a safer and more engaging learning environment for both students and teachers.

The initiative also focused on health education, with KOICA’s medical doctor and the WFK Volunteer team leading lessons on essential health topics for 100 students. The sessions covered proper tooth brushing and handwashing techniques, aiming to establish lasting hea
lth practices that will prevent illness and promote well-being in the long run.

For the teachers, the event included training in life-saving techniques such as CPR and the Heimlich maneuver, empowering them to respond to emergencies effectively. Furthermore, 100 parents attended sessions on medication use, wound care, and awareness of chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, lung disease, and cancer. This holistic approach underscores KOICA’s commitment to building healthier, more resilient communities.

The day’s activities also celebrated cultural exchange and environmental sustainability. Attendees participated in Korean cultural activities, including Hanbok demonstrations, face painting, and traditional paper folding. The event concluded with the symbolic planting of 50 trees, reflecting the shared commitment of KOICA and local communities to environmental conservation.

‘Today, on behalf of the Cambodian-Korean Alumni Association, I am deeply honored and delighted to bring gifts to our beloved stud
ents at Krasang Doh Laeung Primary School in Kampong Chhnang province. The primary goal of today’s distribution of bicycles and school supplies is to help alleviate the burdens of parents, especially to encourage students to study hard, gain knowledge, and develop their abilities, so they can contribute to Cambodia’s future socio-economic development,’ expressed H.E. IM Sour, President of CAMKAA.

‘These donations and educational activities will create a foundation for students to grow in a healthier, safer environment, supported by improved hygiene and healthcare,’ said Ms. CHOI Moonjung, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office. ‘Education is the cornerstone of a brighter future, yet many students in rural areas face significant barriers. With these tools, we believe these young minds will have greater access to learning opportunities, allowing them to focus on their studies and unlock their full potential.’

H.E. Yang Phyrum, Deputy Governor of Kampong Chhnang province, expressed his gratitude to KOICA, C
AMKAA, and the WFK Volunteer team, highlighting the transformative impact of the donations and health education programmes on the local community. He emphasised his anticipation of continued collaboration in future initiatives to support the region.

The event stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of KOICA and its partners in enhancing the well-being and future prospects of Cambodia’s youth. By providing essential resources, education, and health support, these organisations are paving the way for a brighter, more promising future for children in Cambodia.
