Kampong Chhnang Now Is Plastic Waste-Free

Kampong Chhnang: Cambodia’s Kampong Chhnang province has been crowned for its plastic waste-free public sites after 26,349 kg of garbage was collected and managed. Minister of Environment H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth recognised the anti-plastic milestone of Kampong Chhnang in an official event on Jan. 22 at the province attended by competent government representatives, development partners and the private sector, local authorities, and provincial residents from all walks of life.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Kampong Chhnang Provincial Governor H.E. Sun Sovannarith stated that the achievement was the result of a series of about 300 anti-plastic campaign activities. Guided by two main campaigns, namely “Kampong Chhnang is Clean, Khmer Can Do!” and “National Roads Free of Plastic Waste”, the cleaning activities were actively engaged by 596,040 residents from the communities and all institutions in his province.

H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalleth commended the joint efforts and commitment to make Kampong Chhnang a role model against plastic waste, well in line with the government’s priority. The minister called on all participants to keep up the remarkable accomplishment and sustain the cleanliness of the province that does not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also attracts tourists and investments.

He encouraged them to embrace the habit of a clean and healthy lifestyle among individuals and households, as well as the communities, which is a foundation of a sustainable, plastic waste-free society.
