Japan Provides Grant Assistance to Enrich Quality of Life for People in Cambodia

The Japanese government has provided more than US$850,000 in grant to the Golden of Heart (HoG) and the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan).

The contracts on Japanese Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects were signed here on Mar. 25 by Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. UENO Atsushi, and representatives of the two organisations.

Some US$553,969 of the total amount goes to HoG to implement the ‘Project on Developing 4-year Quality Physical Education Teacher Education University through Utilising ICT’ (Year 2), while US$300,987 is for the AAR Japan to promote employment for persons with disabilities through improving the environment of Women’s Development Centre and strengthening the network with communities in Kandal province.

Speaking at the function, H.E. Ambassador UENO expressed his hope that these grants will enrich the quality of life for people in each project area, and further promote friendship between Japan and Cambodia.

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects started
in Cambodia in 2002 to support activities by Japanese NGOs to help Cambodia’s reconstruction and development efforts at the grassroots level.

Since 2002, the Government of Japan has provided assistance for 160 projects, mainly in the fields of primary education, health, agriculture and mine clearance in Cambodia.
