Phnom Penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, has emphasised the collective commitment to fostering peace and tolerance in an increasingly complex global landscape. ‘Our collective voice, united in the call for peace and tolerance, underscores our shared commitment to a world free from the turmoil of war and conflict,’ Samdech Khuon Sudary, also President of the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP 11), said in her remarks at the closing ceremony of IPTP 11 in Phnom Penh this morning.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary shared her vision of a global community where sustainable peace is built on mutual respect, understanding, and trust. She highlighted the importance of fostering dialogue and partnerships across various multilateral platforms, whether parliamentary, governmental, or through civil society. She stressed the need for human-centered approaches to peace, emphasizin
g the enhancement of women’s participation and contributions to the peace process. The role of multi-stakeholder collaboration and partnership was acknowledged as instrumental to achieving peace.
Samdech Khuon Sudary underscored the urgent need for dialogue, diplomacy, and collaboration to build sustainable peace. Highlighting Cambodia’s transformative journey, she shared how the nation’s “Win-Win Policy” has served as a foundation for lasting peace and socio-economic progress. Cambodia’s success story was presented as a model, demonstrating how unity and perseverance can lead to prosperity and development.
The adoption of the Universal Peace Charter and the Phnom Penh Declaration during IPTP 11 were celebrated as significant milestones in advancing global peace and cooperation. The IPTP 11 President called for continued efforts to strengthen multilateralism, uphold human-centered peacebuilding approaches, and amplify the values of tolerance and justice. She concluded with a resounding call to action: ‘Let
us turn our words into meaningful action to ensure peace and humanity prevail.’
The IPTP also signed three memoranda of understanding with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP), and the Asia National Assembly Water Consultative Board (AAWC). In addition, the meeting adopted reports by five IPTP committees.
Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their dedication and contributions, which were instrumental in the success of the Plenary Session.
