Industry Minister Engages with FTB Bank to Boost SME Financing and Public Services.

Phnom Penh: Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation H.E. Hem Vanndy met with a delegation from FTB Bank led by CEO Mr. Dith Sochal to discuss collaborative efforts in enhancing payment services for public services and providing financial support to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), including private water operators.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Mr. Dith Sochal highlighted the bank’s growth, noting its US$2.2 billion in total assets and its nationwide presence with 23 branches, with plans to open two more soon. The bank’s 770 staff have been instrumental in advancing SME development, notably through a US$15 million lending program benefiting 31 private water operators, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD). Building on this success, a subsequent US$20 million credit line from Proparco has already supported 10 operators.

H.E. Hem Vanndy urged FTB to continue backing SMEs and private water operators, stressing the importance of this sector for public health, business, and
industry. The Minister also encouraged the bank to consider more flexible lending terms and lower interest rates for low-risk sectors like water supply. Additionally, he suggested leveraging mechanisms such as the Credit Guarantee Corporation of Cambodia (CGCC) to broaden financing opportunities.
