IMF to Continue to be Main Partner for Cambodia’s Development


The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will continue to be a good partner of Cambodia in the sustainable, inclusive and resilient socio-economic development.

The remarks were made known after Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia received H.E. Kenji Okamura, Deputy Managing Director of IMF on Oct. 9 evening in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.

On the occasion, H.E. Kenji Okamura expressed his deep gratitude to Samdech Thipadei for receiving him and his colleagues to discuss key issues related to the macroeconomic, banking and finance situation, and the strengthening of good partnership between Cambodia and the IMF for the future.

The IMF leader also stressed that Cambodia has pledged a good partnership with the IMF, especially in the surveillance function, setting policy recommendations, and contribution to the better and strong economic and banking system of Cambodia.

In response, Samdech Thipa
dei Hun Manet thanked and appreciated the IMF as well as its team for their active contribution in terms of technical assistance, training and capacity building to Cambodian government officials in the economic, fiscal, financial sectors among others that are important in the formulation of economic, fiscal, and monetary policies, thus transform the Cambodian economy from a planned economy to a market economy, banking and financial stability, which is the main support for the Cambodian economy towards achieving Cambodia’s long-term vision.

The Prime Minister also emphasised that the Royal Government has identified a number of key priorities for Cambodia’s socio-economic development through the introduction of the Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I, which the IMF can support and promote so that Cambodia will successfully implement the above strategy to achieve her vision by 2050.

Cambodia has been focusing on defining a clear strategic and policy framework by assessing the regional and global economic situation, as
well as strengthening its economic and financial independence, he concluded.
