The two-day (Oct. 8-9) upper secondary examination for the academic year 2023-2024 has been concluded smoothly with the principle of law, justice, transparency, and acceptable results and in line with the principle of “Those who know pass the exam”, said a press release of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) released this evening.
All stakeholders have fulfilled their duties with high attention and accountability, with good collaboration from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), health agents, and competent authorities, said the source.
The press release continued that the exam centres were calm, well organised and in good order, despite some disturbances due to rainfall and short electricity problems in some exam centres.
Exam paper boxes of candidates and related documents will carefully be checked and sent to Phnom Penh capital for correction process, added the source.
However, 2,406 candidates (of them 915 female) or 1.76 percent among a total
of 137,040 registered Grade 12 students this year (of them 74,882 female), were absent during the exam. 1,990 or 82.71 percent of the absent candidates are those who failed high school exam in previous years.
Moreover, 136 candidates had health problems, of them ten dropped, 22 being sat for the test in separate rooms, and seven injured in traffic accidents while 46 invigilators had health issues.
Additionally, there were five cases for candidates who used phones in exam rooms, and three cases for candidates who failed to take the exam in the first session, but demanded to sit the test in the next session.
The results of this year’s high school exam are expected to be released on Oct. 30 for Phnom Penh capital and Kandal province, and on Oct. 31 for the other provinces.
Last year, some 72.98 percent, or 98,460 out of 137,412 high school students who have registered for the upper secondary exams, obtained their baccalaureate.
Among the successful grade 12 graduates, 1,673 got grade A; 6,964 grade B; 18,30
3 grade C; 34,246 grade D; and 37,269 grade E.
