Government transferring 3,246 civil servants to IKN in Jul-Nov 2024

The government is currently executing the first of the five phases of the capital city relocation.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government is planning to relocate 3,246 civil servants to the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara, East Kalimantan, in the July-November 2024 period, Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas stated.”Civil servants from 37 ministries and agencies will participate in the first batch of the relocation. They will be provided with 1,740 units of residence,” he noted in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

nas explained that the transfer of civil servants to Indonesia’s future capital city would not merely serve as a physical relocation, as it is also expected to result in improvements in the working culture and public services.

Hence, he called on all ministries and agencies to prepare for transferring only officials possessing competencies that are relevant to the positions and services needed in Nusantara.

nas then remarked that the civil servant relocation process serves as the government’s strategic measure for strengthening public administration and supporting the national development vision.

The relocation process will also be a momentum for the government to implement a more effective and efficient governance, he noted.

He further affirmed that the transfer process would pave the way for transforming and simplifying business processes, implementing digital governance, arranging civil servant management, and strengthening coordination among institutions.

“A sound level of coordination between the government, state apparatus, and various related parties is expected to make the transfer process a success, which, in turn, will provide positive impacts to the government administration and public services,” he stated.

The government is currently executing the first of the five phases of the capital city relocation.

“In the first phase of the relocation, being carried out in the 2022-2024 period, the government focuses on the transfer of institutions and civil servants while ensuring the effectiveness of government administration by utilizing digital technology,” he elaborated.

The government is currently deliberating on providing special allowance to civil servants who will be transferred to Nusantara.

“Hopefully, this (allowance) will further boost civil servants’ willingness to live in IKN, considering that the government has been maintaining fresh air and developing proper supporting facilities and infrastructure in the city,” he noted.
