The Royal Government of Cambodia has spent a total of US$6.6 million to award the Cambodian medalists at the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023.
At a recapitulative meeting held here on June 27, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh, Deputy Minister, Minister of National Defence and President of the Cambodian SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC), said that the cash awards are for coaches, assistant coaches, and athletes who have won gold, silver and bronze medals in the two regional sporting events.
The government has announced that athletes would receive 40 million Riel (approximately US$10,000) for a gold medal, 30 million Riel (approximately US$$7,500) for a silver medal, and 16 million Riel (approximately US$4,000) for a bronze medal.
Cambodian athletes won a total of 282 medals – 81 gold, 74 silver, and 127 bronze at the SEA Games 2023 held in May.
In the 12th ASEAN Para Games in June, the Kingdom earned a total of 71 medals: 9 gold, 18 silver, and 44 bronze.
As the host of the biennial multi-sport events for the first time, Cambodia provided free entry for spectators, free accommodation and food for delegates, and free broadcasting rights for media partners.
