Giant Pandas Greet Journalists in Southwest China

A group of journalists from Chinese and foreign media, including the Cambodian state-owned news agency – the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) – on Aug. 30 visited Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, in Southwest China’s Sichuan province, the hometown of panda, to learn about panda conservation

The journalists were impressed of the panda population and the conditions of environment, natural habitat in Sichuan province.

According to a caretaker, a panda is fed with 30 to 40 kilogrammes of bamboo every day, as well as 5 to 10 kilogrammes of bamboo shoots.

There were nearly 2,000 pandas in China, 80 percent of them are in Sichuan province, referring to the latest data in 2015, he pointed out.

About 300 to 500 foreign tourists visit Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding daily, a Chinese official in the research base said.

Following the same day, the media delegation visited Dujianyan Irrigation System where they learned about government’s efforts on advancing ecological conservation and green
development.

The tours were made after the media delegation attended the 2024 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province, on Aug. 28 to 29.

During their stay in Chengdu, the media delegation also visited the Sichuan International Communication Centre and Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum, among other landmarks to experience the city’s development and to learn more about its achievements since the adoption of the Belt and Road Initiative.
