Foreign Diplomatic Corps Extends Heartfelt Condolences to Cambodian Acting Head of State


Phnom Penh: Embassies of Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Trkiye, the U.S., Vietnam, and others accredited to Cambodia, along with the ASEAN General Secretariat and the United Nations Country Team, have expressed their deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, and his family.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the diplomatic bodies conveyed their sorrow upon learning of the passing of H.E. Neak Oknha Oudom Metreivisidh Hun San, the eldest brother of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in their condolence messages. They acknowledged his dedication to the development of Cambodia, particularly in the Public Works and Transport sector, which had a lasting impact on the country.



H.E. Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, emphasized Hun San’s significant contributions to Cambodia’s development, highlighting the appreciation for his achievements. Similarly, H.E. Jo Scheuer, UN Resident Coordinator, noted that Hun San’s contributions were felt nationwide.



The diplomatic community also extended prayers for Hun San’s soul to rest in peace and for his family to overcome the loss. Born on July 6, 1948, in Kampong Cham province, Hun San was the eldest of six siblings from a farming family. He was married to the late Lok Chumteav Chroeung Kimhen, with whom he had five children.



Throughout his career, Hun San held various roles, culminating in his appointment as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in 2022. He was honored with the title of Neak Oknha Oudom Metreivisidh by His Majesty the King in 2023 for his dedication to national development and support for the underprivileged.



H.E. Neak Oknha Oudom Metreivisidh Hun San passed away on March 28 at the age of 78 due to illness.
