Farmers in the southern coastal province of Tra Vinh cultivate chilies on 1,000 ha of land, which give an average yield of 20 tons per ha. After tending to the plants for 6 months, farmers are overjoyed with a bumper harvest season and increased selling prices for chilies. Bird’s eyes chilies are sold at a price from 25,000VND per kg (0.98USD) (an increase of 9,000VND per kg, or 36 percent), while green horn peppers are sold at a price of 35,000 VND (1.38USD)per kg (an increase of 2,000VND per kg, or 5.7 percent). With these selling prices, Tra Vinh farmers can earn a profit of up to 320 million VND per ha (12,575USD per ha).
